It was a gorgeous day for apple picking1 The sun was shining and the air was crisp, a stellar Fall day!
The kids and moms were all excited to get started with our picking!
While we waited for our turn on the wagon ride, we started the day off with a nice nature walk through a fun little trail near the orchard.
The little ones did great walking the forested trail, and the moms did too!!!
We saw lots of nature and one sweet little girl even found the fuzziest caterpillar we had ever seen!
By the time the wagon came to pick us up, the kids were more than ready to get to the fun part; picking apples!
We took our little ride around the orchard and learned about the apples and the orchard. Once we reached our spot we jumped off and learned how to properly pick and apple; turn the "eye" to the sky and twist!
We had a great time walking the rows of apple trees picking the yummy Nova Macs!
It sure was a great day and lots of fun was had by all!

A is for Apple!
Our annual trip to Avalon Orchards for apple picking was a great success!
The weather was just perfect to be out in the open, taking a wagon ride, going on a hike and picking some delicious apples!
We had an amazing group of moms and kiddies that were all so excited to head out for a morning of fun!
The wagon ride was up first and the kids were so excited! The scrambled up on the big wagon and waited for the big tractor to pull us through the orchard.
Even the littlest ones loved the ride!! We learned about the different types of apples and about the trees that the orchard has. This year was a difficult one for the orchard with the late frost in April earilier this year, but they were lucky to get a decent crop... some orchards lost everything!
Once we reached a good spot for picking our wagon stopped and we go off to get our bags for picking. The kids were so excited to pick apples, and eat a few too, and were off and running!!
We learned that when we pick apples we have to put "the eye to the sky and twist!" this helps to save the buds that have already started for next year!
Many of the kids enjoyed tasting the apples more than they enjoyed picking them. What a great experience for so many of the little one!!
Once we picked our apples, we were back on the wagon to head off to a hike. Every year we take this hike and every year I dread it! But once again, i managed to make it through, I mean if one our moms who is 9 months preggo can do it, so can I!
We survived the hike and were rewarded with a chance to sit and enjoy some fresh apple cider!!
It was a great day, and next year we will do it all again!!!

MMMMM Candy Apples

After going apple picking last week we needed something fun to do with all the apples!
Sure many of us baked and made apple sauce, but what about something really fun?
Well our Decorating Dudes and Divas event for this month was all about apples! Candy Apples!

We melted some yummy chocolate and coated the apples... mmm!!! They were good enough to eat with just the chocolate, but we added more yummy goodness to them!

Sprinkles and candy and coconut and skor bits... oh yeah! YUM!
The kids had fun making their chocolate covered apples and I am sure they had even more fun eating them!!!

Check out all the apple recipes on the momstown meal blog! A great way to use all the apples you pick this season!

Apples, Apples, Apples!!!!
Fall is here and what a great way to kick off the season than with a trip to the Apple Orchard!!!
On Monday a big group of our moms and their kids headed to Avalon Apple Orchard in Innisfil for a morning of fun!!! The kids were all excited as we waited for everyone to arrive and were super excited when they saw the big wagon that they would get to go for a ride on!
We all piled on the wagon, yes even us pregnant moms, and took off for a ride! Our first stop was the entrance to the natural trail through the cedar forest... and what hike this was!!! It was sunny and humid and we were not expected for the
long hike that our guide took us on, but the kids were excited, the moms had fun, and we all got our exercise in for the day (or week!!!).
Back on the wagon we all climbed for our next destination.... the Apple Orchard!!! Here we were all given bags to fill with yummy, fresh, organic Apples! The kids all ran wild picking apples and eating apples!

When we were done filling our bags we headed back to the wagon for our final ride back to the barn where we would all enjoy some fresh apple cider!!
The rain held off and a fun morning was had by all! We all went home with tummies full of apples, bags of apples for eating and baking and some great memories!!!
