Post Holday Bliss

I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas!

My family had a wonderful time visiting, exchanging gifts and of course indulging in some superb meals!

Boxing day always brings me a sense of sadness. Christmas is my all time favorite holiday and I enjoy every minute of the build up. The lights on the houses, the trimming of the tree, the shopping and wrapping of gifts, the cooking and baking and family time, and of course watching my kiddies open their gifts.

Now that the holidays are over, I feel at a loss. What do I do now? No gifts to buy (and no money left to shop!), the tree has to come down and the living room will be bare, and no excitement to look forward to.

I love the holidays, but I hate when they are over.

So now on to New Years. A new year with so much to look forward. Happy New Years everyone!!!

Santa Claus came to momstown Barrie's Christmas Party!

The holiday season is in full swing, and we made it official at momstown's Christmas party with a special visit from the Jolly Man in the Big Red Suit!

Our Annual Christmas Party was a big success once again. With lots new faces and lots of familiar ones, everyone came together for a great time.

The kids danced and played and laughed and had a great time. There were lots of sweet new babies dressed for the holidays and waiting on the arrival of Santa
Santa was a big hit with all the kids as usual! The
kids all got a special sweet treat and coupons to Boston Pizza in Barrie!

Now onto more Christmas festivities as the big day approaches! momstown Barrie has a big week of Christmas fun planned, sleigh rides at Belcroft Tree Farm, Christmas Cheer Night at Boston Pizza, Caroling at Victoria Village and a trip on the Santa Express!!! What a week its going to be!!!.

Bring on the Holidays!

December is only hours away, the holidays can officially start!!!

My favorite month of all the winter months is December! The Christmas decorations, lights and cheer that is everywhere is hard not to love! Sure all the hustle and bustle can get a little much as the month goes on, but it's all in good fun!

There are so many great activities to do with the kids during the month of December... everything becomes about Christmas. Christmas baking, Christmas crafts, you name, it's all about Christmas!

Now that December has hit I can begin my yearly traditions with the kiddies without any eyerolling from my hubby!

To mark the start of December and the official countdown to Christmas, tomorrow I will be making Christmas Tree pizzas with my kids!!! You can make them too... so super simple! And yummy and healthy too!!!

Here is what you need:

• 1 English muffin
• 1/3 cup Marinara sauce
• 2 slices of mozzarella cheese, sliced as broadly as possible and about 1/4-inch thick
• Chopped olives

Here is how to make it:
Preheat your oven's broiler.
Cut the English muffin in half, if necessary, and toast it in a toaster on a medium-low setting.
Place the two toasted English muffin halves on a baking sheet. Spread the marinara sauce on each muffin.
Cut your cheese slices with a tree-shaped cookie cutter or a cookie cutter of your choice. Place the cheese shape on top of the marinara sauce.
Sprinkle the chopped olives on top of the cheese tree, as if they are ornaments.
Place the baking sheet in the oven under the broiler. Broil for just a few minutes, watching carefully. You don't want the cheese to become so melted you don't recognize the tree shape.
Allow to cool slightly and serve.

It's Official! The Holiday Season is here!!

It may only be November 20th, but the Christmas festivities today around town made you feel like it was December 25th!

The welcoming of Santa to the mall and the annual Santa Claus parade reminds children (and parents too!) that Santa Claus has come to town!!! Lineups for miles to sit on Santa's knee could be seen everywhere you went today.

We, once again, missed the Barrie Santa Claus parade, but I know that many of the momstown mamas were there with their kids and hubbies enjoying the festivities and watching the excitement on the kids' faces as Santa approached.

With the parades, sightings of Santa and the excitement that builds about Christmas being just around the corner, comes the annual family event that we all cherish... the Putting Up of The Christmas Tree... and so the tradition continued in my house today.

The tree went up, but not without some drama, as per usual. We opted for a "fake" tree a few years back to avoid the mess of the real trees and to be able to enjoy the tree for longer. The problem with the fake trees is trying to remember where all the pieces go. We tried to eliminate that stress last year by getting a new one that is only 3 tiers and even prelit, no more untangling and stringing lights! However, this created a whole new difficulty, where do all the plugs go? Why is this side lit and not that side? Why are there plugs with no outlets?

So after much under-the-breath cursing, heavy sighs and whines from children who just want to put the decorations on, all the connections were made, the lights were lit and the tree was "pretty".

Let the decorating commence!!! Chubby baby hands grabbed at anything that could be reached from the ground level with squeals of delight, unsteady but determined hands of a 3 year old hung ornaments in clusters that frustrated her dad but made her proud and the stealthy eye of a tween who wants her 'special' ornaments in the front made sure the tree was full of colour. And all the while a proud mama snapped pictures of the joyous event for the scrapbook where this memory of childish pleasure and Christmas joy will be captured forever.

And so the season of joy has begun! Bring on the fun!!

Halloween with momstown was a blast!

October was such a busy month but it ended with a well deserved BANG!

Our annual Halloween Boo Bash was a huge success again this year, our biggest event ever!!

Loads of moms, dads and kiddies came out for an evening of boo-tastic fun! The kids all looked adorable in their costumes, especially the babies who were experiencing their first Halloween!! From Woody to Nemo, turtles and monkeys and angels, Dora, a witch, a princess... you name it they were there!!!

This year was extra exciting as we had a very special sponsor!! Fisher Price got into the Halloween spirit and sponsored the party and fun! They sent a load of toys for the kids to play with and a special gift bag for each child!!

The kids (and moms!) had a blast playing with all the new toys! In between crafts and play dough and eating great food, the kids were sure they all got their turn checking out the toys!!

To round off the party and bring the excitement to the next level, all the toys were raffled off!! Some very excited mommies, I mean kiddies, gathered as the draw took place and the winner claimed their prizes!

Thank you to Fisher Price and to all the momstown mamas for making this year extra special.

October is Busy!!

Boy has October been a busy month!!! It's hard to believe their is just over a week left of October!

The month started off full of Fall and Thanksgiving Fun! Our little ones gathered in the cozy kitchen of one of our members home and made "hand" crafted turkey pictures! Painting with kids is always fun, and always brings out the giggles and smiles!

momstown mamas have discovered a new event that is lots of fun for moms with kids under 12 months! This week we held our 3rd Baby Babble get together and as always
the kids were fun to watch! The moms got some chit chat in while the kids played. Its amazing to watch a bunch of babes interact with each other and see how they grow and play together.

We are all looking forward to a great time next week as we lead into Halloween! Monday the mamas and tots will be heading to the farm for some pumpkin picking! Some Halloween crafts will precede our main event this month, our Annual Boo Bash!!

We are all super excited for this years party! Every year we have a great time seeing all the kids dressed up and enjoying some play and crafts and of course great food! This year is extra special with our party being sponsored by Fisher Price!!!

A visit from Snow White!

A cool fall morning brought the moms and kids out for an enchanting morning with Snow White!

Snow White made her appearance amidst squeals of delights and wonder from little girls dressed in their princess best.

The girls along with a hardy pirate, gathered to listen to a story told by Snow White. After a quiet story the kids were led by the royal princess in some fun and games.

A tea party of juice and cookies got the kiddies all sitting on their bottoms, a task that even the most experienced mom can find daunting at times!!

A final play with the parachute and Snow White had to say good bye. It was a fun and memorable morning for all the girls... and boys!

Catch the School Bus!!!

Momstown moms and kids got in the school spirit today when the kids made their very own school buses!

Some of the kids are still a year away from joining the ranks of the school aged kids, and some are starting this year. No matter what the age though school buses are like fire trucks to kids, something fun and exciting to see!!!

The kids all painted their buses bright yellow, and surprisingly remained quite clean!!!

Once they were dry, the glued on some wheels, added the word SCHOOL, and to my surprise, some were able to write the words themselves!!! Then they added the final touch.... a picture of themselves on their bus!!

It was a fun morning!

Happy Anniversary momstown Barrie!!

This week the fun started off with an Ice Cream Social. One of our members, Lindsey, opened up her home and the !
moms and kids invaded her backyard for a morning of play. While the kids enjoyed the bouncy castle and the slip slide the moms chatted and caught up while watching the babies play.

The highlight of the morning was seeing the kids eyes light up when the ice cream came out and they all got to choose their flavour and topping

Nothing make a kids smile like ice cream!!!

As the week went on the anticipation of the Anniversary Party grew. The weather was calling for rain which made for one nervous momstown mama!!! With all plans set to go rain or shine Thursday came with sunshine and clear skies!

momstown took over Centennial Park for our big celebration drawing hundreds of moms and tots, members and non-members alike.

The morning had its bumps, but all in all it was a fantastic day!!!!
.
Vogel Joy came to Barrie from Woodstock, Ontario to entertain the kids with their musical show, Tumble Tots brought two bouncy castles out for the kids to play on and Lionel from Boston Pizza came out to play with the kids

The kids danced to the music, giggled with excitement as they played in the bouncers and visited with Lionel.

As the morning went on the clouds rolled in, the sky darkened and the wind picked up. Everyone was having such a great time that they braved the wild weather. Eventually the rain started to come and moms and tots packed up feverishly in an attempt to make it out of the park before the skies opened up.

Thank you everyone that came out to celebrate with us!!!

Pizza College!

This week momstown headed to Boston Pizza in Barrie for a pizza making kitchen tour!!

Moms and their kiddies were given a tour of the kitchen before the restaurant opened followed by a chance for the little ones to make their very own pizza!!!

The kids went into the kitchen in groups of 5 and were given a chance to create a
pizza creation!
They added their sauce, cheese and other ingredients and waited patiently for the chance to taste their very own handmade pizza!!
To mark their special day at Boston Pizza and their first hand made pizza experience the kids were all given certificates to remember their success at Pizza College!!!

Looking forward to the next time we get to do this!!!

My Princess is 3!

Yesterday my little princess turned 3!

It was a great day full of chaos, amazing friends (many of who I met thanks to momstown!!), squeals of laughter from the kiddies as they all had fun and of course there was cake, and lots of it!

Usually I order a cake from the grocery store or Costco, it's just easy. I don't have to bake, the look great and taste great and the price isn't too bad. This year, for some reason, I was inspired to bake me own cake for my daughter. I love to bake but usually it's simple and just for treats for the family.

So a few months ago I was looking on the Internet for cake ideas for her cake and I found some amazing princess themed cake. Not sure if this was a good idea or a bad one because it started my mind thinking and planning for this spectacular cake for my little one!

It took days to prepare.... first I hand made molded white chocolate crowns 2 days ahead of time. That was actually fun and turned out great! Then the night before the big day I started the cake.... and the cupcakes. The cakes were from boxed mixes, pretty easy right? sure, but boy did it take long to bake to cakes and 48 muffins! Then I decided to make the butter cream icing from scratch, a feat that I am super proud of after watching many YouTube videos and hearing how hard it can be to get the right consistency.

All in all it took 9 hours to make the cake! It was a huge hit and tasted great!!!

The things we do for our kids.... sometimes you feel crazy in the moment, but the smiles and giggles that we get in return just make it worth it!!!

The girls take care of their "girls"!

Girls just wanna have fun! And that's what our momstown mamas did as they headed out to Bravo Fine Lingerie in Barrie for a bra fitting clinic! Yes, I said bra fitting.

A little wine, some nibbles and a bunch of ladies trying on high end support garments, made for a great night out! Funny how some lace, cleavage and a new feeling of confidence can excite a girl!

The ladies of Bravo were very welcoming and made the night enjoyable as this was no trip to the local box store for a bra! oh no, this was an experience that all women should take the time for!! A proper fitting was a huge eye opener for all, none of us were wearing the right sizes and what a difference the right size makes!!
With the fitting came the fun of trying on all the fun, functional and sexy undergarment!

As all the ladies headed home with their hot pink bags full of frilly new bras, they all seemed to be smiling a little wider, walking a little taller and all in all happier.

Thanks Bravo for making our night!

Easter Fun!!!

Spring is officially here, and the perfect weather we have been having has made it that much sweeter!!!

With the start of spring, Easter has arrived!! There has been lots of great activities around town to celebrate Easter and momstown mamas have been out in full force taking advantage of the celebrations and the warm sunny weather that has made these activities so fun!!!

momstown headed to Chappell Farms for an exclusive morning of Easter fun!!!
We had a record turnout for our first field trip of the year!!! The moms (and dads!) were just as excited as the kiddies to head out to the big field to watch the Easter Bunny spread goodies around!!

The kids all ran out on to the field to collect the treats and fill their bags and baskets!! Squeals of excitement by mom and kids could be heard as they all gathered up the treats!!!

A visit with the animals was followed by a wagon ride around the farm!!! The kids all loved getting on the big Wagon pulled by the big tractor and our friendly farmer!!

The warm sun had everyone sticking around the farm to play and chat and enjoy the day!!

Another Easter Egg Hunt was held the following day by our gracious host Sarah D. It was another perfect day for the kids to enjoy a hunt outside and play as all kids should!!!

The kids made Easter baskets and then headed outside to hunt for eggs!!! Chocolate covered children ran around the yard after the hunt enjoying the sun.

April has lots of great activities for moms and kiddies alike to celebrate spring!! Be sure to check out the calendar to see all the fun coming up!!!

Spring is in the Air!

Ahhh! Spring is in the air! Though there are still 2 weeks until it's officially Spring, the weather we have had this past week has been very Spring like and very welcomed by all!

As the snow melts, the temperatures rise and the kids ask to play outside, moms and dads everywhere are happy to head outdoors for walks, bike rides and play time!

March is still a mystery though, the weather man is predicting that there is still snow to come, but in the meantime we will embrace this warm weather and dream of Spring and not too far off Summer!!!

momstown Barrie has lots of great events for March! Healthy eating month brings us a healthy Dinner Club night and Salad Mania! Crafts and play days fill the calendar as we get ready for Spring and Easter! A Hawaiian Luau and an Easter Egg Hunt at the farm round off the month and get us ready for April!

Nanny Robina comes to Barrie!

The moms of momstown Barrie were treated to a visit from Nanny Robina, well known guest of The Mom Show.

The weather had been full of snow and the roads slick, but moms came out by the dozens to hear what Nanny Robina had to say!

As the witty and endearing Nanny began to speak everyone listened in silence. The silence didn't last long though as everyone settled into the comfort of her humour and boisterous manner. Her easy personality made everyone feel at ease and no questions went without answer.

From sleep to bullying, picky eaters to potty training, we talked about it all.
How do you get your toddler to stay in their own bed? Was it normal for their child to prefer to sleep on a cold floor rather than a warm bed? Is it ok if their child prefers to snack all day instead of eating meals at the table with the family? How do you discipline a child that finds joy in pushing their sibling down? How do you get your child to poop on the potty? And the questions went on from there!

Each questions came with an informative and insightful answer... coupled with a witty and often hilarious anecdote from her years of experience.

The moms all left with ammunition on how to tackle their unsuspecting children... Thank you Nanny Robina!

Busy Weekend

This weekend is a busy one with Valentines Day and Family Day. It is a weekend to spend time with loved ones and take time out to just do "family things".

Im not a huge fan of Valentines Day, to be honest. I feel its a day for card and flower companies to make lots of money. I have always told my husband NOT to buy me flowers as he will pay double the price on Valentines day, just wait until mid week and get me some for 1/2 the price. I don't need flowers just one day a year to know that he loves and cares for me. I know I sound like a scrooge but I just feel its over rated.

Now Family Day on the other had, I think is important! Not that everyday shouldn't be "Family Day" but I think its one day that everyone should take the time and make it just about family. Turn off the computers, put aside that phone call and just snuggle up on the couch watch a movie or go skating. Spending family time together doesn't have to cost money.

Enjoy your day with the family tomorrow!

Did he see his shadow?

So today is Groundhog day! what was the groundhogs prediction? Well from what I heard, we are looking at six more weeks of winter!

To be honest Im not so sure you can take what a groundhog sees with any truth, but its a nice way to get yourself through the rest of winter.Regardless of what "Willie" says, we will have more snow, more cold and more days you just want to stay inside and watch the weather from the warmth of your home!

As you can tell I am done with winter! Every year I feel the same at this time of year, I just want to pack our bags and head to the warmth of an island, just to get a break from the bitter cold. It hasn't happened yet, and its not likely to. So I bundle up, brave the cold and long for warmer weather to come. It will be here soon enough I know.

It won't be long before the summer is here, and we are talking about what about what a horrible winter it was, while basking in the sun... one thing is forsure, I NEVER complain about the heat!

What makes you happy?

A new year is well under way, the winter blahs are lingering and we are all trying to get through the days with a smile on our face.

So what makes you really happy? What makes you stop and smile? What makes you lie in bed at night and feel content?

I know the common answer for most will be their kids. And it's true for me too! At the end of the day, no mater what obstacles I encountered, how many rude people I spoke to, how many bad things happened, my kids can always make me smile. The love of my girls is something that I can never get bored with or ever be able to shake off... they are always there to make me happy and give me a reason to get through the day.

Maybe this is why we have kids. Maybe kids are here to remind us that nothing is ever so bad that a hug, giggle or sloppy kiss can't fix.

Sure we all have days where our kids make us want to scream, but our anger or frustration never lasts. Their innocence and light hearts can break through even the worst moods.

So the next time you are out with your kids and they are having a tantrum, running loose in a store, or wiping their runny nose on their sleeve, and encounter that lady without kids who says, "Why would anyone want to have kids?", just smile and shrug your shoulders, because you know that when the tantrum stops and the kids are calm you will be showered with hugs and kisses by the sweetest little beings on earth.

Nothing beats being a mom!!!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Happy New Year!!!! 2010 has arrived and along with a new year, a new decade and new promises came the snow and cold!

We had been lucky so far with a mild winter, but with a new year came the cold and snow!

I don't mind the snow, it makes everything look so nice and is fun for the kids to play in. But the cold is another story... I don't like the cold at all, but the kids don't seem to mind it! They can play outside in the bitter cold until their cheeks are glowing red, their lips are blue and they are shivering, but they still insist they are warm...the determination to play outdoors beats out the sense of cold. Go figure!

With the winter and new layers of snow come lots of new activities for the kids and for momstown! Tobogganing, skating, building snowman and making snow angels... oh the fun the moms and kids will have!!!
