Winter Birthdays – Get The Kids Outside!

In thinking about how big this year is with momstown turning 5, I have been thinking about the big birthday bash we will be throwing this summer and about all the fun birthday themes out there!

I find there are so many things to do in the Spring, Summer and Fall, but what can we do to celebrate a birth in the Winter?

So I asked Kate Howes, owner of Take The Party Outside, what do we do in the Winter?

Here are her thoughts in her own words:

Let’s think back to when we were kids. The first snowfall was always the day you jumped out of bed the fastest, and a snow day meant actually playing in the snow.
Ahh, I remember it with great fondness and I can still feel the warmth that the hot chocolate brought to my tummy — the good old days.

Today our kids don’t play outside like we did. I don’t know if it’s because we have them so close to our sides in their protective bubbles or if the video games and TV shows are so much better now, but kids just aren’t outdoors as much. Either way, when people ask me, “What should I do for my son’s birthday, it’s in February?” I always say, “Do something outside, kids love it!”

So, what is there to do in the Barrie area in the winter?

Here are a few ideas if you want to Take the Party Outside:

• Take the kids snow tubing – Horseshoe Resort, Blue Mountain or Snow Valley
• Take the kids snowshoeing – Hardwood Hills, Scenic Caves or Wye Marsh Wildlife Center
• Take them skating – you can rent the ice at any area arena and many come with the use of a party room.
• For the really adventurous, try dog sledding – Windrift Kennel

For those of you who are die hard home-party people, here are some outdoor ideas:

• Play Headless Snowman (from Disney Family Fun website)

WHAT IT IS: A goofy photo opportunity that allows kids to substitute their heads for a snowman's.

WHAT YOU NEED: Camera, props (such as a corncob pipe) and a small stool. The kids we know love any chance to be hams -- especially for the camera. Enter this decorated but headless snowman. As the cameras clicked, the kids took turns mugging as Frosty--
corncob pipe and all. We placed a small, sturdy stool behind the snow body so that the shorter kids could also get into the act.

Thank you so much to Kate from Take The Party Outside for sharing these ideas with us! Enjoy those winter Birthdays mamas!

Our Birthday Bash was a Blast!!!

What a perfect day for a party!! The threat of rain caused a bit of a panic for me, but Mother Nature came through and the raid held off!

We had an amazing turnout for our momstwn Barrie 3rd Birthday Bash and everyon had a blast! It was great to see so many familiar faces and to meet so many new people!

I am so glad that local photographer, Jennifer Hall, from Digital Portraits and Imaging by Jennifer Hall, was on hand to document the memories from the day.

The kids enjoyed starting the party off with a round of Kindermusik. Our wonderful sponsor The Melody in Me did a Kindermusik demo for all the excited children and they had a blast!

The big draw as usual with the little kids is the bouncy castle. A giant bouncy castle courtesy of Pizza Pizza took centre stage and was the source of giggles and shrieks of delight.

Another popular spot was face painting with Pickles the Clown. Her amazing and magical face paintings were a hit with all the kids. Adorable little faces were transformed into beautiful butterflies, kitties, tigers, and more. It is always amazing to see just how magical Pickles face paintings are!

We were pleased and thankful to have local artist Please and Thanks perform his children's Hip Hop for the kids. His unique musical stylings for the kids had them laughing, dancing and grooving along. The parents even got into the fun!

After all the fun that was being had, a break for lunch courtesy of Pizza Pizza and Boston Pizza Barrie was much needed. The hungry masses lined up to fill their bellies so they could move on to more fun!!

With full bellies, the kids had a blast taking part in the Monkeynastics demo. There were songs and games and fun equipment for the kids to try!

I broke in on the fun to announce the winners of our awesme prizes, all donated by our fabulous sponsors. Congrats to all the winners and a HUGE thank you to all of our prize sponsors. Maple Leaf Foods, Presidents Choice, Little Tikes, Hasbro, Smashbox Canada, Greenworks, Clorox, Life Choice Foods, Independent Mary Kay Represntative and Regal Consultant Debby Goldrick, Bayside Family Chiropractic, Monkeynastix and of course, US! momstown Barrie gave away a free 1 year membership.

To end our party we all enjoyed some delicious cake thta was kindly donated by one of our members. The cake was perfect and everyone loved it.

It was an awesome day. It was a day of pride for me, to see so many people come out to support momstown and to celebrate our success in Barrie.

Stay tuned for more pics and a video of our amazing Birthday Bash!

Thank you to ALL of you!
