Body Painting Fun!!

Once again our Picasson in the Park was a success! The kids always have so much fun and so do the moms!!!

Being creative and having the freedom to do what they want with the materials they are given makes the kids so happy!

momstown mamas know the value of letting kids be kids and letting them get a little messy!

Our picasso was all about body painting! I thought it would be great to celebrate our month's circus theme with a little face and body painting!

I made some homemade face paint, super easy and super cheap!!

All you have to do is take 1 tablespoon of baby lotion or cold cream and 1 tablespoon of cornstarch and mix well, add a teaspoon of water and a few drop of food colouring and VOILA! facepainting that is safe for the kids! No staining, easy to use and easy to clean up!

The kids were so amazed with being able to take "paint" and create on their own bodies.

One of our newest little ones loved getting into the paint and experimented with all the colours. She made sure to paint herself, and even got her mama involved!!!

This was such a great way for the kids to have fun, and so easy to clean up thanks to our Huggies Simply Clean Wipes!

Camping with the Family!

Summer time is meant to be spent outdoors, having fun with friends and families.

It's a great chance to enjoy nature, explore and make some everlasting memories.

We live in an incredibly gorgeous country, and what better way to spend time with the family outdoors getting back to nature than camping!

Sure, some of you may think, camp? outside? all night? with the kids! (GASP!) But really, think of the great memories you will build, camping doesn't have to be scary... although I will tell you it has scared me in the past!

So, you are ready to tackle a weekend of camping with the family? What do you need? momstown has a great list of things you need! A tent, some sleeping bags, camfire cooking accessories (no ovens or microwaves in the wild!) maybe a lantern and of course some fun stuff for the kids!!

Our friends over at momstown Mississauga wrote a great post on preparing to camp as a family, she made it sound easy!

For those non-campers (like me!) I am sure your first thought was campfire cooking accessories? What on earth can I cook on a campfire!!! You would be amazed at what you can cook on an open campfire! And I am not just talking hot dogs and marshmallows (although a good spidey dog and some s'mores, sure make the kids smile!). You can make tacos, pizza, shish kebobs, bacon and eggs and even PIE!!!
momstown has a great list of all the amazing food you can make on a campfire, you might just eat better while camping than you do at home!

This week momstown Barrie is going to test the camping waters with our wee ones as we adventure into Back Yard Camping!!! We are all ready for some tents, good food and great fun! Be sure to join us, you won't want to miss this one!

ahhh cottage life!

Summer Time. We all love it. The weather is great to be outdoors for hours and hours a day, it's a great time to make road trips, visit amusement parks and just plain have fun.
My family has always spent the summer at the cottage. For as long as I can remember my family has had a cottage and this was the only way to do summer. I didn't do summer camp as a kid, or go camping, or travel across Canada to see the sights. We went to the cottage.

My kids are experiencing the same. Cottage life. I couldn't ask for a better way to spend the summer with my kids.

We still make day trips and visit the zoo and amusement parks. We go to the beach and picnic with friends. We do a lot of great stuff locally but whenever we can we head up north to the family cottage.

The great thing about having a family cottage is the family time. Watching my kids with my parents is priceless. Watching my kids experience the things I did as a kid is heartwarming.

Swimming in the lake for 10 hours a day, fishing at dusk with their Papa, roasting marshmallows at the campfire... the memories are endless.

Just sitting here thinking about it I can smell the camp fire, hear the giggles and can't help but smile.

The days and weeks we spend at the cottage are probably the ones that make the most memories.

Tales for Tots at the Beach!

What better place to head to on a gorgeous summer day than the beach!
We had an amazing turnout of moms and kiddies that were so excited to spend the day with friends at the beach!
To make it even better, we had our Tales for Tots event at the same time! Reading on the beach while enjoying a treat is what summer is all about!

Our book this month was fun and all about our theme, Clifford at the Circus! Scholastic picked a great book for us this month in celebration of our theme, and a great introduction to our special guest that will be joining us at our birthday bash, Clifford!!

The kids all gathered around on their blankets and towels as my oldest daughter joined us and read the story.

The kids all love Clifford and were excited to listen to the story.

The story was all about working together and was a great way for kids to learn about the different people involved in the circus.

After the story, the kids headed back down to the lake for some swim time. They had a blast splashing in the water, throwing rocks and digging holes in the sand!

If was a perfect way to spend a summer day!

Sponge Painting with our Picasso's

Another gorgeous summer day for painting in the park. A great group of moms and their little ones came out to the park to enjoy some creative fun with momstown.

It was so nice to meet some new moms and kiddies and welcome them to momstown! They had a blast along with thier kids, getting messy with some sponge painting.

A super easy and fun way for the kids to create works of art with more than just their own fingers and some brushes!

The kids explored using the sponges to make patterns and mix colours. They sure do love to paint, and they love to get messy!!

Watching the kids as they work hard on their pictures and paint with enthusiasm and whim is always inspiring.

It reminds me that it's not about the clothes I have to wash paint out of, it's not about the spilled paint on the floor, or swiped across the face or in their hair, it's about how to preserve their creations and continue to foster their creativity and independance.

To quote Pablo Picasso:
"Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up."

Keeping Cool in Barrie and Innisfil

Man are we having a hot summer so far! Not that I am complaining at all, but sometimes too hot is too much!

There are so many awesome ways to keep cool this summer in our great area! Barrie and Innisfil have some awesome options for you and the family to enjoy the summer heat and keep cool!

Why not head to beach! We are surround by a gorgeous fresh body of water! Lake Simcoe is welcoming this time of year and Barrie and Innisfil are full of beautiful beaches!

Innisfil Beach is just a short trip East off the highway and has a gorgeous park setting with a sandy beach for families to enjoy.

Barrie has several beaches you can enjoy! Johnson's Beach and Centennial beach both have a large section of beach area to spread out with the family and are equipped with lifegaurds. Both are located down town and easy to get to.

Minets Point and Tyndale are two other fantastic beach areas with lots of shady trees and a playground. There is no lifeguard here, but the smaller beach area makes it easy to watch the kids and keep everyone safe!

There is also the splash pad at Heritage Park in Barrie. It's always fun to head down there and watch the kiddies splash around and play!

There are also many rec centres in the area including the YMCA that have great programs going on all summer long as well as swimming!

Chapters in Barrie has crafts and stories everyday at 2pm, another great way to keep cool and get some education in the kids!

Of course, our favorite way to keep cool, is by joining momstown events! We have loads of great stuff all summer long! Beach days, water play, crafts, little scientist and the list of fun goes on!!

Enjoy this summer heat, stay cool and have fun! Before you know it we will be looking for ways to stay warm in the snowy days of winter!
